Enemy of Intergranular Corrosion at 425°C-815°C – 316Ti Titanium-Stabilized Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger Tubes

Chemical equipment (the English name is Chemical Equipment) is a part of chemical machinery. Chemical machinery consists of two parts. The first part is chemical machinery, mainly referring to equipment such as fans for fluid transportation, compressors, various pumps, etc., whose main components ar

Product Description

316Ti stainless steel (UNS S31635) is a titanium-stabilized version of 316 stainless steel with a chemical composition similar to 316L. The addition of a small amount of titanium effectively prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding or high-temperature exposure. This characteristic significantly enhances the material's resistance to intergranular corrosion, enabling it to better retain its original properties in harsh environments.

Core Advantage: An Upgrade of 316, The "Corrosion Guardian" with Titanium Stabilization

316Ti is a high-performance alloy based on traditional 316 austenitic stainless steel, enhanced by the addition of Titanium (Ti) (Ti≥5×C%) for stabilization. This critical improvement achieves a qualitative leap in solving intergranular corrosion. When exposed to the sensitization temperature range of 425°C to 815°C, titanium preferentially combines with carbon, effectively preventing chromium depletion at grain boundaries. This endows the material with excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion.

We provide more than just steel pipes; we offer your long-term stability and safety in high-temperature and corrosive environments.

Why Choose 316Ti?

Inherent "Anti-Sensitization" Property: Compared to standard 316/316L, 316Ti maintains excellent corrosion resistance during welding or high-temperature service without the need for additional post-weld heat treatment. It is particularly suitable for thick-section components and processes involving multiple welds.

Superior Chloride Corrosion Resistance: Inheriting the advantage of Molybdenum (Mo) from the 316 alloy, 316Ti demonstrates significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 stainless steel in chloride-containing marine environments and acidic media (e.g., sulfuric acid concentrations below 15% and above 85%).

Excellent High-Temperature Mechanical Properties: The addition of titanium not only stabilizes the structure but also enhances the material's creep strength and stress-rupture strength at elevated temperatures. Under extreme conditions like those in PWR nuclear power plants, it forms a dense, chromium-nickel rich oxide film, ensuring sustained high-temperature corrosion resistance.

Broad Service Temperature Range: Suitable for a wide temperature spectrum from cryogenic conditions up to 816°C, performing reliably in aerospace, nuclear power, and chemical industries.

Key Application Areas

Petrochemical Industry: Used in heat exchangers, reactor piping, and process lines conveying corrosive media, especially where there is a risk of polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking.

Marine Engineering: Due to its excellent resistance to seawater corrosion, it is widely used in offshore platform hydraulic lines, desalination equipment, and marine heat exchangers.

Nuclear Power & Energy: As a critical material for PWR nuclear power plant primary piping, pressurizer bellows, and steam generators, it withstands long-term exposure to high-temperature, high-pressure water.

High-End Manufacturing: Applied in aerospace engine components, automotive sensor sheaths, and pharmaceutical/food processing equipment requiring high purity.

Note: The main difference between 316Ti and 316L lies in the stabilizing element. 316Ti, containing titanium, is more suitable for service in the 425-815°C range or for thick-section welding applications, effectively avoiding post-weld sensitization. 316L, with its ultra-low carbon content, is more widely used in general strongly corrosive environments.
