Product Overview & Performance

  • Grade 201 stainless steel is a chromium-manganese-nickel austenitic alloy designed as an economical substitute for 304 in non-critical environments. Our 201 CR coil features:

  • Corrosion Resistance: Sufficient for indoor use, including exposure to water, mild chemicals, and food residue. Passes 5% neutral salt spray test (>72 hours).

  • Mechanical Strength: Yield strength ≥260 MPa, tensile strength ≥520 MPa – higher than 304 for thinner gauge designs.

  • 2B Surface Excellence: Smooth, reflective finish (Ra ≤0.4μm) achieved through controlled cold rolling and bright annealing. Suitable for post-fabrication brushing, polishing, or coating.

  • Precision Processing: Thickness tolerance ±0.02mm (for coils ≤1.5mm), width tolerance ±0.5mm, enabling automated press feeding and laser cutting.

However, for indoor use in kitchens, retail displays, and appliances, its corrosion resistance is sufficient and offers significant cost savings (typically 30-40% lower price).


Q: Can 201 cold rolled coil be welded without losing corrosion resistance?

A: Yes, 201 exhibits good weldability using TIG or MIG processes (ER308L filler recommended). Post-welding, passivation is advised to restore the protective chromium oxide layer. Weld zone corrosion resistance is adequate for non-submerged indoor applications.
